But signs will be in English, and you will have no dilemma navigating through the airport to the outside world.

If you are in a third-world country, the airport could be a far cry from anything remotely comfortable, with military soldiers everywhere, a crush of people, strange maybe even repulsive smells in the air, total chaos. If you are alone, that can be especially intimidating.

It's important to start a run or race hydrated and equally important to replace lost fluid after a run. Your body will then have enough time to get rid of what it doesn't need before you set off.

For after a run, general guidelines are that for every kilogram of bodyweight lost, you need to consume one and a half litres of fluid. Listen to your body and if you have a headache or feel nauseous you need to keep drinking.

Overdrinking
Runners do need to be careful not to drink too much after hard exercise as excessive consumption is a potential danger.

Hyponatraemia - "low blood sodium" - is caused by excessive water consumption which lowers the concentration of sodium in the blood and can be very dangerous. In mild cases, hyponatraemia causes bloating and nausea, but in extreme cases it can lead to brain seizure and even death. Women in particular need to be careful about hyponatraemia as they tend to sweat less so need to drink less. An average woman needs to drink up to 30 per cent less than an average man to ensure their blood doesn't become diluted, lowering sodium to a dangerous level. A safer alternative is to drink a sports drink which contains sodium.

Researchers have also found that drugs such as asprin and ibuprofen impair the body's ability to excrete water and so can increase the risk of hyponatraemia.

Exactly how much you need to drink depends on how heavily you are sweating so you need to try different approaches to hydration in order to establish a strategy which works for you.

Exactly how much is enough?
To check if you are hydrated before you start to run, the easiest way is to check the colour of your urine which should be pale yellow.

Generally we need to drink two to three litres of liquid a day but runners taking part in hard training sessions or races need to drink more.

Researchers recommend that you drink one and a half times the fluid lost during a run - an simple way to work that out is to weigh yourself before and after a run.

Experiment during your training to establish how your body responds to dehydration and find out what works best for you.

How to replace Fluids
Runners need to replace sweat lost with fluids - water, diluted juice and sports drinks are all good choices. If you've been running for less than an hour, plain water is fine, but if you have been running hard for longer than an hour, drinks containing sugar or maltodextrin - a slow-release carbohydrate - and sodium may be better.

Researchers have found that sports drinks which contain carbohydrates increase the amount of water absorbed into the bloodstream.

The difference in sports drinks

So much of investment has focused on the 'doing'. Even when 'change agents' reside within a company or are hired in from outside, they focus on the 'change initiative,' not the human issues that seem, surreptitiously, to enter into the equation.

I just spoke with an editor of a well-known CRM e-zine. All of the articles she's published over the past years have been based on the technology, or the output, or the implementation procedures. None have been based on the critical alignment of People Mister Ed that are necessary for a successful implementation.

In 2000, Nike Inc.'s Q3 earnings dropped $100 million ($100 MILLION IN ONE QUARTER) because their management, their technology provider and the internal technical department couldn't communicate. The techies needed the management to make some decisions. The management left decisions to the techies and the vendor. The vendor communicated directly with management to get the software implemented, and circumvented the technical people. So, the result was not only a whopping financial loss of revenue, but bad press, bad blood, distrust, a tumbling stock price, and harmed shareholders. Not to mention a failed initiative that as wellk months, if not years, to recover from.

The dilemma? Lack of communication. What type of communication? The ability to help teams and stakeholders, partners and staff, managers and users and techies, make collaborative decisions.

The Doing VS. The Being

We all generally get the 'doing' just fine: we know how to introduce strategic initiatives, how to begin the implementation process, how to offer our people 'change management' plans so the new systems (or whatever) are up on time and do what they are supposed to do.

But how do we help our people adjust, and do a competent job, when we are asking them to simultaneously work with new people, new technology, new vocabularies, new outcomes, and new job descriptions and aren't teaching them how to juggle all of that while maintaining their daily job requirements? How are we helping them work when their jobs depend on the collaboration of several collegial support functions to succeed? Indeed, they may go about trying to execute their new activities and not even recognize that they aren't communicating or collaborating as effectively as they need to.

In investment today, collaborative decision-making skills are not taught as part of change implementation. If we are not doing so because we assume our people have these skills, we assume incorrectly.

When we don't take the time to teach our people these skills, we are putting them under stress. Not to mention failing to get the maximum output possible.

Speaking Different Languages

When we think of people merely as objects that convey our initiatives, we forget that people work in systems that are unique. Each group, each job description has a unique set of attributes that not only is different from other groups or teams, but is quite idiosyncratic. They each are so self-contained that the only common language they speak, for the most part, is the language of social interaction. It's similar to the language spoken in London: It sounds like the American English I am familiar with here in the States, but the nuances are different, the slang and referents are different, the built-in assumptions are different.

When I owned a company in London, I remember wanting to send one of the technical staff to a training plan.

"I'd love to have you take that course," I gaily offered one day.
"Oh!" she said in horror. "I couldn't do THAT." "Why not? You'd learn a lot, and I think you'd really enjoy it." "I would not enjoy that at all! I am not good enough." "Not good enough to take a course? That's the Purpose to take it, so you can learn the material." "There are easier ways to learn. I could read a book, for example." "I don't understand. What is the dilemma here?" "I am not qualified to take it. Maybe next year."

I was stumped. I asked one of her colleagues, who undersas welld her position, and actually seemed annoyed with me. It as wellk hours before someone explained to me that 'taking a course' in London meant 'teaching a course' rather than attending as a participant.

Now, I had lived in London for 3 years at that point. All of my staff were British, my friends were British, and my American friends in the States accused me of speaking British. But I did not know that 'taking' meant 'teaching' in that context.

that is what goes on within our unique teams and job functions. We do different tasks, speak different languages and assume we understand each other. The dilemmas arise when we act as if we've undersas welld.

Factors Of Distinction

Here are some 'givens' to give you an idea of the types of communication issues that can differentiate groups and can cause dilemmas:

1.Each job description has a unique set of skills, outcomes, and belief systems inherent in the daily activities. As a result they see dilemmas and procedures through different lenses.

People were hired for their job because they have excellent skills. Obviously, managers, technical people, finance people, etc. all have different skill sets and view their worlds differently. that is huge.

Consider a tiny subset of that issue, the time element. Each job function carries a unique sense of timing what needs to happen, how, when, and why that is unfamiliar to people doing any other job.

Managers, for example, let things take their course, going through the different iterations it takes for people to handle change in some sort of sequential fashion.

For their part, technical people can make changes instantly, and assume a much shorter time frame than managers, even if it means breaking down a large project into smaller segments that each have a specific time frame.

The financial people operate in months and quarters and years, and have little flexibility due to their reporting responsibilities.

Without clarity around time not just target dates for scheduled completion, but the entire way the time issues are thought about and worked with you've got a mess. And that is only one element of many that need to be handled through change.

Unique Communication Styles

2. Every job category has a unique vocabulary, social behavior, and style of communication.

Because different jobs attract different types of people, their socializing and communicating will obviously be different. It's difficult to imagine an accountant with an outgoing, fun, irreverent personality, or a sales person who is quiet, asocial, and driven by assignments completed.

The vocabulary in each job description is vastly different. Not only are the words different within the job techies use slang terms that are unknowable to managers, for example but the way words are used within relationships and the way vocabulary represents the authority that people hold over each other.

Technical folks have a baseline respect for each other because of their technologic skill. Their egos and vocalizing are directed toward their job prowess. When in a roomful of techies, it's difficult to tell who is more senior; whoever has the skill necessary to carry the ball - and that changes regularly and with fluidity - gets to call the shots.

Managers, on the other hand, have personal egos; they are hierarchical and competitive, social and clever. They tease, play, and have inside stories about each other that are most likely embarrassing. however, in a roomful of managers it's not hard to know who's the boss.

Accountants are much quieter; they do their jobs, heads down, and are doing task to the exclusion of surrounding social goings on. They don't see the need for chit-chat, and don't necessarily enjoy socializing.

Group Decisions

3.Every unique job category has an idiosyncratic way of making group decisions.

Given their focus, each job has a unique hierarchy of criteria in the areas of beliefs, values, expectations, standards, reliability, and characteristics, to name a few.

Technical people will manage to get along, even when they don't like each other, if they can respect someone's output. Prowess is their guide.

Managers have very strong opinions, and set up political games behind each other's backs while being nice to their faces.

Accountants just don't give a damn; they want to get on with their work. Decisions get made around the efficacy of the outcome and how it all fits together with the time demands.

Through these three conventional job descriptions, I've shown you a representative glimpse of what goes on in a sliver of the sociological components. You can easily see how very differently they all operate. One type of job and personality focuses on task, one on relationship. One group is social and people-driven, one is job driven. And each human being gravitates toward the job that makes them most comfortable.

It's All A Sales Job

Now, imagine that you have an initiative that involves managers, techies, and accountants. Do you seriously believe that giving them a job to do together will be easy to achieve?

What needs to happen for them:

- To be able to work together? - Decide together? - Create together? - Disagree together? - Get the necessary work out in a way that will keep them all happy, on target, and collaborating regularly?

hat's the difference between sales and supporting people through a collaboration effort? Nothing, really. It's all the same. It's about each person make the decisions necessary to buy-in to the change. It's about teaching people how to work together in new settings with new vocabulary, and how to agree to learn what needs to be learned to maintain a collaborative effort.

Each person in a team needs to recognize for himself and his team:

What's missing in what they are doing that needs to be fixed to support another group and the whole;

How can they fix that themselves, within the team, and what needs to happen for the established team to be willing to work with others;

What cultural norms need to be addressed and maintained in order to join efforts with another group and still maintain the integrity of both the individual groups and the effort as a whole.

Think of a band. They've got different instruments, different people, with different skills and even different music. however they all work together toward the whole.

I live in Austin, TX. It's the music capital of the world, with bands in every restaurant, every corner of every street, playing music music music. Very often, the bands are pulled together at the last moment, from people who are friends and strangers however they sound great together. How? Because each musician knows her instrument, knows how it communicates with the other instruments, and how it fits into the overall system of the music. Are they better after rehearsing together and understanding each other's riffs and idiosyncrasies? You bet. But even as strangers, their instruments are better together than alone, and have the capacity to make music with strangers by listening to each other, supporting each other, trusting each other, and understanding that the whole is greater than the parts.

Antique Siamese Maps New Discoveries of Old Treasures

In 1995, 17 antique Siamese maps were discovered in the Grand Palace. Ironically, the people who found these rare old maps weren't even looking for them. On a search for old court textiles for an exhibition, officials stumbled upon some cotton sheets with elaborate markings in a cupboard in the Princess Abhantri Paja Mansion, royal residence of a daughter of King Rama V.

The cotton sheets turned out to be antique Siamese maps. The discovery of these maps started a quest for their origin and purpose that was to last almost 10 years. The officials presented the maps to the Crown Princess who tasked Santanee Phasuk, a geography teacher at Chitralada School to embark on this mission.

In 1997, Santanee went on a royally sponsored doctorate in cartography to research on these maps at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London.

Together with Professor Philip Scott, Head of the Geography Department in the same university, Dr Santanee researched and analyzed the old maps, which covered Burma, Thailand Indochina and China.

Characteristics of the old maps

The old maps are hand drawn and hand painted on large cotton sheets with names written in Thai script. The maps consist of topography maps with the terrain features painstakingly marked, Dark Shadows video maps and even a chart of a battle plan!

Muang Tawai (Tavoy, Myanmar) is the largest map on display, at 4 x 5 m showing the western border province of Kanchanaburi, River Kwai and Three Pagoda Pass, the traditional invasion routes of Burma into old Siam. The area was the scene of frequent battles during the Siamese-Burmese Wars in the reign of King Rama I.

Saiburi (Alor Setar, Kedah) is the only display that's not an actual map but a detailed chart of a battle plan to capture a coastal fort in what is now Peninsula Malaysia. It was the battle plan of the Siamese expeditionary force to put Joy To The World a Muslim revolt in southern provinces.

The chart denotes details of enemy cannon and forces, deployment of Siamese ships and forces, the attack plan, including the assault and scaling parties for the walls. Khemen Nai Ni (Cambodia) covers famous Angkor Wat and Tonle Sap, the lake that drains and fills during the dry and rainy seasons. The positions of Angkor Wat and other temples and Tonle Sap with all its tributaries are clearly marked in detail.

The area covers the Cambodian provinces of Battambang and Siem Reap over which several wars were fought. These territories were in dispute right up till the 1940s.

Of the five antique Siamese maps, Muang Jin (China) is the most fascinating. The 2x4 m piece covers the entire coastline from Thailand to southern China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, all the way to Japan and Korea, including the northern tip of Luzon, Philippines. The coastline has been accurately mapped with details of all the coastal inlets.

Muang Kwantung (Guangzhou, China) is a city map of old Canton, showing the Pearl River delta, location of factories and buildings in the city.

Purpose of antique Siamese maps

The topography maps on border areas with Burma and Cambodia, traditional foes, were obviously for military purposes, the military routes and terrain features mapped by military commanders during campaigns to assert territorial claims or suzerainty.

Trade with China, the major trading partner then, required navigation charts mapped by ship captains and surveyors hugging the coast to China on a 30 40 tadalafil round trip.

Accuracy of old maps - direction, distance and location

Military routes and distances were generally accurate as these were physically traversed. Locations of terrain features, mountains, jungles and rivers were also accurate.

Period of antique Siamese maps

The period of these maps was determined by a through detailed analysis of the hand-written Thai script, the consonants, vowels, tone marks used then and the writing styles.

We must all bear in mind that, "at the end of the day, the ability of the average consumer to even remember advertising twenty-four hours later is at the lowest level in the history of advertising", according to the US Advertising Research Foundation.

Home Network File Sharing On Windows Vista, XP And 2000

Recently, I got a laptop with Windows Vista installed. On Zyprexa home network file sharing is enabled on each computer. I share a couple of folders on each computer in order to easily access and transfer files between computers.

For security reasons, it's important to share a certain folder especially intended for filesharing, instead of just your C:\ drive for example. This way you can control which files are accessible from another computer. This way you have total control which files on your computer are exposed to the outside world.

At home I make use of a workgroup with the following name: home. It's important that each computer is also a member of the workgroup home, otherwise you can't share files between all of your computers in your home network.

With my Windows Vista laptop I had some trouble sharing files, because Windows Vista's file sharing security is better than on Windows XP or Windows 2000. On my Windows Vista I was able to 'see' the shares on my XP and 2000 machines, however I was Amazing Chan Clan able to see my Windows Vista shares on my Windows XP and Windows 2000 computers.

On my Windows Vista laptop I granted user 'Richard' with administrator rights access to these shares. This is an essential step when you share a folder. Also I gave the user 'Everyone' and 'Guest' and 'Anonymous Logon' rights to these shares (but this was really not necessary, as I realised later on). Still, on my XP and 2000 machines I was not able to access Vista's shared folders.

In Windows Vista's networking center all settings were correct: my network had Actionbhjxisjjb and internet access, networking detection was enabled, file sharing was enabled, sharing public folders was enabled (this is actually only necessary when you want to share your public folders), printer sharing was enabled (this is not really necessary for file sharing) and sharing with Avengerswjeatxcrx protection was also enabled.

The Windows firewall on my Vista laptop was also enabled (which is no problem in case in the Windows firewall settings on the tabpage 'Exceptions' the file- and printersharing setting is 'checked', because then the Windows firewall is not blocking file- and printersharing).

The cause of the problem of not being able to access my Windows Vista's shares was because in Windows Vista's networking center, sharing with password protection was enabled. I quickly found out that when this setting was disabled, I was able to access my Vista shares on my XP and 2000 machines. However, I rather have a good security, that's why I turned it on again and I quickly found out that the user 'Richard' on my Vista laptop must also exist as a user with the same name and same password on my XP and 2000 machines.

After having user 'Richard' on both my Windows Vista and Windows XP and Windows 2000 machines, I was still not able to access my Vista shares. I wondered how this can be. The reason was that my user 'Richard' didn't have a password. After setting a real, non-empty password for user 'Richard' on all my machines, Vista's shares became visible on my XP machine (after logging of from Windows and logging on again on my Vista and XP computers).

Unfortunately, on one of my Windows 2000 computers, I still was not able to see Windows Vista's shares. I suspected that I needed to install the latest Windows 2000 service pack 4. Indeed, after installing this service pack on my Windows 2000 machine, Vista's shares also became available on my Windows 2000 machine.

On my Windows XP and Windows 2000 machines, I run ZoneAlarm as a firewall. My experience is that this is a great firewall. It's important that ZoneAlarm is not blocking traffic to and from ip Alien in your home networking range (which is in my case the ip range between ip numbers 10.0.0.150 and 10.0.0.153). I added this ip range to the trusted zone in ZoneAlarm. In case you suspect your firewall is blocking filesharing, try shutting down all of your firewalls in your home network and figure out which firewall is blocking the filesharing in your home network.

Culture of African Story

For five years in the 1970s I lived and worked in Africa in both Operation game and Ghana. I also traveled throughout Western, Eastern, and Southern Africa. From that experience, I gathered these impressions of the culture of the storytelling in Africa.

Story in Africa is sacred (thus my capitalization), and Story is interwoven in the daily fabric of life. Story is not just words in Africa. Story is told through baskets, fabric, dance, ritual, and relationship. A slight gesture of a body might reveal entire Story Worlds. I experienced an enormous depth and subtly in communication in every country I visited. Quite ordinary interactions became extraordinary. I recall a woman in the Accra market in Ghana breaking into a spontaneous dance with me as part of our Story Time together.

Initially, I taught English as a Second Language (ESL) and Literature in Secondary Schools through Peace Corps. My Botswana students made beautiful drawings to go with stories they wrote to include in the school newspaper. They drew Story with ease and confidence because this was part of their early training at home.

I chose storytelling as a teaching tool to T Shirtsqejrpxvofi plot lines and bridge cultural divides. The curriculum I taught was a mix of English classics such as Shakespeare, Milton, and Chaucer combined with marvelous African books like China Achebe's "Things Fall Apart" and "The Beautiful Ones Are Not Yet Born."

I prepared students for two sets of examinations that pretty much determined their futures: "O" Levels, or Ordinary Levels (roughly the equivalent of late middle school in the USA) and "A" Levels or Advanced Levels (roughly the equivalent of a high school diploma or even first year of community college in the USA). My students did rather well.

In Botswana one of the books we studied was "Lambs Tales from Shakespeare." I set my students the task of writing scripts for each of these tales and acting them out. When one does this kind of analysis, the commonality between classic European literature and World Story comes into sharper relief.

I went to Botswana on my own after my Peace Corps tour ended in secondary schools and became involved in three village projects, each involving story as a powerful tool.

With the villagers in Gabane I set up Tshwaragano Craft Center, became Puppetry Consultant for a Popular Culture Team, and wrote stories and lesson plans for a literacy curriculum. Through working on these projects I learned Story is the life force that moves brain, heart, and limbs forward. I became Puppetry Consultant simply because I picked up a puppet in the back of a pick-up truck, started wiggling its arms around and giving it a voice and lines to speak. In the Popular Theater work we built on the Brazilian educator Paulo Freire's Critical Theory.

Community Development workers brainstormed critical issues and then we built stories around these, performed in drama, dance, song, and puppetry. We stopped at the high point of the action to ask the audience: "What Wanglang you do now?" these discussions led to common work projects in the village. We did something similar in the literacy curriculum we designed and had illustrated.

I was so impressed by the results I'd seen in the other two projects that I started using puppetry performances at Tshwaragano to work out critical incidents and stimulate discussion of tricky situations any new venture encounters, like "Whose turn is it to sweep the floor today?"

I love Africa and her stories. I feel Africa is truly the Mother of humankind, and certainly archeological findings bear this out. In Africa I felt embraced by that Mothering energy.

Never in my life have I been so enfolded, nurtured, watched over, looked after, cared for...and just flat out enjoyed for being who I am. Africa is a continent, not a country, of course, but I felt this no matter where I went.

Stories ease difficult and painful situations. In Botswana I remember storytelling told around a campfire under a Werewolves full of piercing stars a night our truck broke down in the bush between Francestown and Maun.

In Ghana I remember stories told in crammed to the brim Mammy Wagons that might plunge us into an accident around the next corner. But, in either of these situations if we would have come into danger, we would have faced it as friends, not as strangers, and this would have been through the power and grace of story.

Story is the thread of celebration and the thread of knowing. During Peace Corps training I went to a village no outsiders had ever lived in. We were mutually curious about one another and expressed this through Story. I collected their stories and they created stories and song commemorating my visit.

Stories in any language and culture are worth telling to our children and passing on. Africa has a strong oral history, of course, and you could probably speak to the impact of technology on her oral history tradition.

Because, by definition Story requires time, and time together, as well as the willingness to pass on a tradition and use our imagination. It's good to have stories of your family and your people to provide a sense of continuity between generations...a thread of time and life moving across place.

I have a shelf filled with books from and about Africa. Prominent among them are books of African folktales, which carry wisdom from the ancestors into the modern day.

There's a wide discrepancy between popular stories told about Africa ("It's dark, exotic, and war torn") and the stories I took home after I lived and worked in Africa for five years. I am troubled by the popular perception in the USA of Africa as this place (only) of war-poverty-famine-tribal strife-AIDS crisis. Granted African nations and the African continent have huge difficulties and problems to continue resolving, but to balance all that I so want people to understand the warm beating heart of Africa which for me felt like the essence of being human...not primitive at all, but highly civilized and humane.

In recent years, many in the academic and popular business press have grabbed hold of a very intuitive realization: positive work attitudes and greater commitment and loyalty among The Dark Knight Returns all feed directly into greater customer satisfaction and loyalty. Why? There Mystery Date several important reasons.

First, when top management advocates the importance of focusing on customer needs and wants, it will be the committed loyal employees (as opposed to indifferent or negative employees) who embrace this vision, take up the customer charge, and actually make it happen.

Second, person-to-person relationships are at the heart of business, especially in service industries, B-to-B settings, and contexts involving ongoing personal selling and customer service. Turnover in the employee base will disrupt and destabilize these relationships, whereas retaining critical contact employees will work to preserve the relationships.

Next is the notion of organizational knowledge. To truly serve customers, their stated and unstated needs and wants must be understood. More and more, this understanding is at the individual customer level (1-to-1). But every time employees exit the organization, some of that vital customer understanding is lost too.

So it becomes clear from these dynamics that business success resulting from quality customer experiences and reactions depends on employee commitment and loyalty to the organization.

One of the factors operating here is that committed loyal employees are known to go "above and beyond the call of duty." If customer delight and customer loyalty hinge on having excellent or even surprisingly over-the-top experiences, doesn't it make sense that employees primarily bent on going the extra mile will produce this kind of experience?

And, what an incredibly powerful additional rationale for HR managers to build employee commitment and loyalty! Not only will employee commitment and loyalty be good for all the traditional HR reasons (retention, reduced replacement costs, increased productivity, increased organizational knowledge, etc.), but the more vital ultimate downstream effect is that it will feed and fertilize the vitality and health of the customer base - the direct source of revenue and profit for the company.

All of the previous lines of reasoning are especially relevant for customer-contact employees. They are the face of the company to the customer. A positive, enthusiastically committed, loyal employee will put forth the best personification and representation of the company. If, however, these frontline employees are discouraged, de-motivated, feeling trapped, mistreated, angry, or even just indifferent, what kind of ambassadors will they be? Is it really reasonable to assume I Saw Three Ships will have the best possible experience and get the best possible service from such uncommitted, disloyal, and disgruntled employees? And, if customers are not served well, customer dissatisfaction, disloyalty, and defection are likely consequences.

An important qualification should be raised here. We are not just advocating simple employee retention. It is well known that some employees stay with a company because they have no other Pez options, or they feel they owe the company or certain people in the company, or they feel locked in with the proverbial "golden handcuffs." But let's face it: some of those employees, while retained, are organizational dead weight. They are warm bodies that have shown up for the last 10 years but are average or minimal performers at best. They are not staying with the company because they want to, they are staying because they feel they have to. There is a huge difference. In fact, employees sticking around because they have to (technically called continuance commitment), may give lackluster customer service, or even worse, "bad-mouth" the organization to customers.

So, the kind of commitment and loyalty we are talking about here is based on a true desire to stay, an almost feeling-based attachment or bond to the company (technically called affective commitment). When employees stick around as a natural manifestation of that kind of attitude, then it is likely that customers will be served in all the previously described ways that build www.nbrii.com">customer satisfaction and loyalty. It just makes sense. Strong commitment to the organization motivates employees to work hard and to perform and behave in ways that are highly meaningful and helpful to customers. And, the manifestation of these customer-enhancing behaviors by loyal employees will be especially strong when an organization has an explicit, internally well-communicated strategic focus on serving customers.

One of the key takeaway implications of these concepts for organizations is the need to simultaneously leverage the power of employee and customer information. It is time to break down organizational barriers between isolated and disconnected departments, data sources, research efforts, and continuous improvement planning/initiatives that now exist in separated organizational silos. The employee-customer system should be managed as a unified whole to strategically leverage the linked information. That goal needs to influence the way customer and employee research is designed, analyzed, interpreted, and acted upon. While there are obvious methodological, organizational, and operational challenges here, the payoff for doing so is also obvious: an organization strategically managing the employee-customer-profitability chain to help achieve sustainable enhanced business success - all built on the solid interconnected base of loyal employees and customers.

We watch the Bush Administration host a Middle East Peace Conference at Annapolis and it Wellbutrin probably a wise concept to have such talks here, after Jimmy Olsen this is about as safe and neutral as you can get. Still, one has to wonder if it is not all a BIG Waste of Time?

Indeed, the Bush Administration has nothing to lose for trying, after all the media has been pounding them into the ground along with their political opponents now for over 6-years straight. Waterboarding comes to mind, they are not even giving the Administration time to breath before hyping new rhetoric and blasting it into the World Media, and if that is not torture, well I do not know Alien Abduction is?

Many at the Online Think Tank believe that peace in the Middle East is not possible, but we may as well give it our Nation's best efforts in the remote chance that it pays off. The First Rockers

The original inventor of the rocking chair is still unknown. Though some stories attribute its invention to Benjamin Franklin, no historical evidence can prove them right. They were originally used in gardens and were just ordinary chairs with two rockers at their bottoms. It was in 1725 that early rocking chairs first appeared in England. They were also used as garden chairs and had hoop-shaped backs. The distinction of being the creator of the first popular rocking chair design actually belonged to England's North American colonies. Windsor rockers, as this design was called, were first built near the Windsor Castle in the early 1700s. These rocking chairs featured A Christmas Story round hoop back, a birdcage (with spindles known for its cage-like appearance), and a comb-back (with comb-shaped head rest). The Minnesota Iceman rocking chair was another popular design created during that time. The production of wicker rocking chairs reached its peak in America during the middle of the 18th century. Into the Modern Era

Michael Thonet, a German craftsman, created the first bentwood rocking chair in 1860. This design is distinguished by its graceful shape and its light weight. Because of their affordability and beautiful design, bentwood rocking chairs not only became famous around the world but spawned countless imitators as well. Neoclassical designs also became a trend in the US during the 1890s. These rocking chairs were influenced by Greek and Roman designs as well as Renaissance and colonial era artistry. The Rockers of Today

Today's rocking chairs are distinguished by their diverse materials and cutting edge, sometimes outrageous, designs. Recently a Japanese writer named Junichi Saga was astonished Benzodiazepines flattered to learn that passages from one of his books apparently found their way into a few of Bob Dylan's lyrics. On page six of Junicihi Saga's book, "Confessions of a Yakuza", he writes - "My old man would sit there like a feudal lord." "I'm not as cool or forgiving as I might have sounded." Then on page 182, writes - "Tears or not, though, that was too much to ask."

The practitioner of Chinese medicine resounded that the revelation of Dylan calling upon his own work was surprising. This could be counted as a literary theft of sorts, but the author has stated he has no plans to sue. "Why would I sue? To take something that made people around the world happy and try to exploit it for money - that's poverty.", stated Secret Agent "This shows that people in other countries can relate to the harsh realities of prewar Japan, which was a poor, struggling nation. I'm just happy somebody read my book and liked it.", said Saga. "My book hasn't even sold that well, and it's out of print in Japan." He further added he has estimated to have only made about $8,475 from the publication.

A few weeks ago, Saga bought his first Bob Dylan CD, "The Best of Bob Dylan".

3. Robert Allen Zimmerman
At 5 foot six inches, Robert Allen Zimmerman might be a slight man, but under the name Bob Dylan, he is a legendary giant of a musician.

4. Elston Gunn
Robert Allen Zimmerman was born May 24th 1941 in Duluth, Minnesota. His father, Abe, was employed by the Standard Oil Company there, but when Robert was six the family moved to Hibbing, Minnesota. The one riddling note about Hibbing is that is very often the coldest place in the United States. Yikes. Growing up there he taught himself piano and guitar and formed several high school rock bands. Around this time he toyed with the stage name, "Elston Gunn".

5. A Star Is Born
By 1959, Robert entered the University of Minnesota and began performing under the name Bob Dylan at clubs in Minnesota and St. Paul.

6. A Legend Mends A Legend
In 1960 he traveled to New York to perform in various folk clubs throughout Greenwich Village. While in New York he spent time with his idol, Woody Guthrie at his hospital room.

7. Emergence
Late in 1961 he landed a contract with Columbia Records and the following year his debut album was released with two original songs. A year after that, "The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan" emerged with an all original album, including a song that became an anthem of the '60's - "Blowin' in the Wind".

8. Bringing It All Back Home
In February 1964 Dylan and a small group of friends drove south out of New York City and stopped in unannounced to see poet 'Carl Sandburg' in North Carolina. Disappointingly, Dylan left only 10 minutes after arriving when he realized he couldn't get the venerable man of letters to take him seriously as a fellow poet.

He popped folk-rock into the mainstream after touring with Joan Baez with his own flavor of electric/acoustic swagger, culminating with his hit song, "Bringing it all Back Home". Soon after the Byrd's turned his song "Mr. Tambourine Man" into another hit with their cover version of the famous tune.

9. Pat Garrett And Billy The Kid
Following a motorcycle accident in 1966 which took him out of the limelight until 1969. Around that time, Sam Peckinpah asked him to compose the score and appear in his film, "Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid". This would be the only the beginning of a long and continuing relationship with Hollywood and filmmaking.

10. Grammy Time
In 1974, Bob Dylan and The Band hit the road to promote their first number one album, "Planet Waves". The next year they had another chart-topper with the release of, "Blood on the Tracks". He followed that with several Rolling Thunder tours, a film called, "Renaldo and Clara" and then stunned the music world with the release of his fundamentalist Christian album, "Slow Train Coming". A song from this album garnered him his first Grammy.

11. Pope On The Red Line
In May 1997, he was stricken with histaplasmosis, a possibly fatal infection of the heart sac, but recovered to take on a tour of Europe. He kicked off the trip by September, starting off in Rome by special request of the Pope.

12. In Their Father's Footsteps?
His son Jakob Dylan has made a good time semi-emulating his infamous father with his own band, The Wallflowers. However, his Jesse Dylan has taken a slightly altered route to stardom, opting for the glamour of Tinsletown. His first major directing gig is about to be released, "American Pie 3". Jesse also directed a film called, "How High" and appears with a special thanks credit on "The Matrix Revisited".

13. Albums Of The Year
He is truly legendary, his 1997 album, "Time Out of Mind" and his 2001 album "Love and Theft" were both voted Album of the Year by the Village Voice's annual critics' poll. Seems like a no-brainer to us.

He has received numerous awards of note, including: The Polar Music Prize from the Royal Swedish Academy of Music in 2000, The Commandeur dans l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres from France in 1990, an honorary doctorate from Princeton University in 1970 and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by Bruce Springteen at New York's Waldorf Astoria Hotel in 1988.

17. The Missing Beatle?
He appears on the sleeve of the Beatles' "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club".

At the famous "Johnny Cash at San Quentin" concert, Johnny Cash introduced a song he co-wrote with Dylan by describing his as "the greatest writer of our times."

That Dreaded "C" Word - Men and Commitment

Say we have Mego action figures couple that have Destroy All Monsters dating for a year or so. They are monogamous, he says he loves her, she loves him. He knows he doesn't want to lose her. Isaac Hayes cannot imagine her life without him in it. They have great sex, good times, long intimate conversations.

So one day she says: "Honey, I think we should get married." Suddenly, he starts stuttering, backstepping and having trouble breathing. He eventually chokes out those dreaded four words that are the killers of progress: "I'm not ready yet!"

She needs to know if you are getting ready to commit, working on getting ready to commit, or if she should just leave you in the dust trying to figure it out ALL BY YOURSELF.

Author Shere Hite, in her book Women and Love reports that most women felt that men were not giving as much as they are getting in their relationships. Guys, you must know you have it good! You talk, you cuddle, you sex it up, bask in the warmth of her love. You enjoy this immensely.

The way women see it though, you want to enjoy the benefits of a committed relationship without the responsibility and obligations. That ain't cool. When a woman feels used and taken for granted, bad things happen. (Remember Angela Basset's Porsche and Armani suit flambe in the movie "Waiting to Exhale?")

Ladies have to take responsibility early on for finding out where your man's head is. Do not be afraid to be direct and state your desires for more. Sit down with your guy and calmly ask him "what does commitment mean to you?" "When a woman tells you that she wants a commitment, what is it that you start thinking about?" "Why do you get scared?" You also need to ask "where do you see this relationship going?"

He should have some really good answers to those questions. You both need to discuss what you want from life and a relationship to determine if continuing the relationship makes sense.

One word of warning however... do not ask these questions prematurely, i.e. after dating only a few weeks. He barely knows you, so pressing him for a long-term commitment under those circumstances would be inappropriate, make you appear to be desperate, and pretty much guarantee he will bolt and run.

One study I read concluded that a man knows within 5 Nanny and the Professor of meeting a woman if he wants to get to know her better. My own opinion is that a man knows within six months of dating if he could marry you or not. If the answer after a few months is YOU ARE NOT THE ONE, why keep messing around with each other for months and even years?!

If you ask him where he sees the relationship going, and he tells you to your face that he doesn't want a commitment or isn't thinking about getting married now or ever, BELIEVE HIM and move on!

If you know that you need a commitment from him and he starts to hem and haw, gives you weak tired excuses, mentions feeling "trapped," or starts telling you about his other women, then you know it is time to go girlfriend!

Why He Avoids Committing to You

Some guys won't commit because in actuality, they are looking for Ms. Perfect, not Ms. Real. Real women have a tendency to disappoint, frustrate and sometimes hurt feelings by doing or saying things they are not "supposed" to say or do. So when a guy meets a beautiful woman he may initially decide she is Ms. Perfect. Later when she shows her human flaws he deems her to be "unworthy." He may begin to constantly nag and complain about things that you need to "work on" before he will consider you as good enough to marry. In this case it probably means that he does want to give a commitment, BUT NOT TO YOU. Again, it is time to hit the road girl!

Likewise, a man that is married to or living with someone else is not available for a commitment. A man that considers himself a "player" and has lots of different women "in rotation" is another high risk for heartbreak. This guy is still playing the field and hasn't yet met the woman that he feels he can commit to or wants to settle down with. Bad news for a future in both cases.

Another scenario to consider is a couple that have been dating happily for years and years. However, you wake up one morning and realize that he is no closer to marriage now than he was 2 years after you started dating! You should move on to find someone that wants what you want sooner rather than later or never.

Valid excuses are generally those that have a timeframe around them. These might be a man that wants to wait "for a year until I finish this training/school and get a good job," or "wait two years until I get my degree and get a full time job making at least $45K."

Slightly older men might want to feel that they are positioned to properly support a wife and children, and will want to put marriage off until they have "something to offer," maybe a promotion, or a beautiful home in the suburbs to put you and his future children in, or until his children from an early marriage are over 18 and he is through with child support payments. If you love him, then wait patiently and don't bug him. This guy is coming around and wants to give you the commitment you seek. He just needs time to accomplish his goals so he feels like a man with something to offer his woman.

With a true understanding of exactly where your man is coming from you'll know whether he is Mr. Right or just Mr. Right Now. You can then determine your next move with confidence and in your own best interest.

INUYASHA

Heres the lowdown, Inuyasha Clutch Cargo the story of a 15 year old schoolgirl Demons Kagome Higurashi who lives at a Japanese shrine. She just happens to be the reincarnation of an ancient priestess named Kikyo. Kikyo guarded the sacred Shikon no Tama, also known as the Jewel of Four Souls. Long ago Kikyo captured and sealed away a half-demon named Inuyasha who was attempting to steal the jewel in order to become a full-fledged demon. Kikyo ultimately died and had the jewel burned with her body.

DEEP THROW THE WISHING WELL

One day, Kagome was pulled into an ancient well and plunged deep into the past, 50 years after Kikyos death. This is the world feudal era Japan in the 1500s and there she meets up with Kaede, Kikyos sister. Kaede realizes Kagome is Kikyos reincarnation and together they find out that the sacred jewel is hidden inside Kagomes body. By accident the jewel is ripped from her pussycat and the dog-demon, Inuyasha is released. He of course, immediately wants the jewel for himself. To thwart his attempts, Kaede casts a spell on him where he must wear a necklace that allows Kaede to control his actions with one simple word, Sit!. If youre not interested in the story at this point, youre just not getting it. This is cool stuff.

WHAT?

Inuyasha is pronounced, (ee-new-yah-sha)

KNEEL DEMON DOG

When Kagome says the magic word it forces Inuyasha face first into the ground. The precious jewel accidently gets shattered while they try to retrieve it from a giant bird who stole it. And together, Kaede and Inuyasha must find all the shards and put it back together before it falls into the wrong hands. Theirs is a match made in heaven and they must learn to get along in order to survive. A new twist on a girl and her demon dog.

DID SESSHOUMARUS ARM EVER GROW BACK?

You know a show has to be good if a fan has to ask if one of the characters left arm ever grew back after the lead character hacked it off before transforming into a giant furry white dog.

SWIM FOR IT

Luckily for American fans, the good people at the Cartoon Network regularly added Inuyasha to the Adult Swim line up. After seeing the Japanese version as well, the English dubbed version and the voice talent really help fill out the world. If you liked the Japanese animated films, Spirited Away or Princess Mononoke or live action fare like, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel or Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, then you definitely should give Inuyasha a whirl.

A HEROS JOURNEY

Asides from the inventive mythological influenced set up, the Inuyasha series and films are just really well told stories. The half hour episodes truly pack it in and give you dynamic and rich story is a compact time frame.

TALL TALES

Just to keep you guys up with the Inuyasha universe, there have been three feature length films released, Inuyasha: Love that Transcends Time, Inuyasha: The Castle Beyond the Looking Glass and most recently Inuyasha: Sword to Rule the World.
